What you’ll do
- Build the AI services developers call through one key: an OpenAI-compatible gateway with routing, tool calling and structured output; vector search; memory for each end user; hosted agents
- Grow the MCP connector and its widgets so an assistant can take a one-line idea to a live, working app on Harakumo
- Make AI spend safe: holds, metering, spending limits and honest errors that never surprise a customer with a bill
- Write evals and conformance checks that prove what each model really supports, and keep the docs truthful about it
What you bring
- Production experience building with LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or open models): tool calling, streaming, structured output, embeddings
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript; comfort with edge or serverless runtimes
- Hands-on experience with retrieval (RAG), vector databases or agent frameworks, and a sense of where they break
- A bias for shipping: you have launched AI features real people use, and you can show them
- Bonus: MCP servers, evals, cost and latency work on model traffic
What we offer
- Competitive salary and early-team equity (discussed in the first conversation)
- Remote-first, async-friendly; quarterly in-person in NYC
- Ownership of the AI platform from API to dashboard to docs
How we hire
- Apply on this site. Every application goes through the form on the role’s page, with the live link of something you deployed on Harakumo. Email and LinkedIn messages are not reviewed.
- Build it, from your own account. Create a free account, build a working app around your own idea (connect your AI to harakumo.com/mcp, or use the CLI or SDK), deploy it, and submit it signed in at /careers/next-step. We read what you built before résumés.
- One conversation. 45 minutes with the founder about what you built and what you would build here.
- A paid project, if useful. Optional: a scoped, paid one-week project on a real service. Then an offer.
The same steps, for every role, are on the careers page.
Apply for AI Engineer
Applications are reviewed only through this form. Required: your GitHub or portfolio, and the live link of something you built and deployed on Harakumo, like https://your-project.harakumo.app (sign up free and deploy it with the SDK, the CLI or your AI; even a 20-minute demo counts). A GitHub link is not accepted for this one.
